RAPID DRUG TEST AS A FAST AND EFFECTIVE DETECTION DEVICE

Rapid drug tests provide fast results in a few minutes. Rapid drug help to identify the presences of drug and/or metabolite in the specimen. Rapid drug tests provide ideal solutions for correctional, workplace, health & human services.

Drug testing usually involves a two-step process: an initial drug screen that identifies potentially or presumptively positive and negative specimens, using a Rapid Test. Followed by a confirmatory test of any screened positive assays by doing lab tests.

Screening tests (the initial tests) indicate the presence or absence of a substance or its metabolite. These are qualitative analyses—the drug (or drug metabolite) is either present or absent. The tests generally do not measure the quantity of the drug or alcohol or its metabolite present in the specimen (a quantitative analysis).

Screening tests can be done in a laboratory or onsite and usually use an immunoassay principle. Immunoassay screening tests are inexpensive, easy to use, and produce results quickly. Screening immunoassay testing devices are available for urine and oral fluids (saliva). Most screening tests use antigen–antibody interactions (using enzymes, microparticles, or fluorescent compounds as markers).

Meanwhile confirmatory test using technologies to perform the confirmatory test such as gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry, and various forms of tandem mass spectrometry.

What Is a Rapid Drug Test?

Rapid drug tests are used for screening (initial tests). Rapid drug tests are also known as instant tests because the time required to get the results is very fast, only a few minutes. Rapid drug tests target only specific drugs or drug classes and can detect substances only when they are present above predetermined thresholds (cutoff levels).

If there is no metabolite detected, it is considered a negative result. But, if there is any drug metabolite detected, it is considered a positive result. Positive results are sent to a lab for further testing and will take an additional 2-3 days.

When Is the Rapid Drug Test Used?

Drug testing is important at the time of hire. That is especially important for industries such as healthcare, construction, transportation, or any other industry that operates machinery or works directly with other individuals. So usually, several workplaces will screen prospective workers using a rapid drug test.

Besides that, rapid drug tests may also be given:

  • After an accident: A drug test may be given to see if drugs (including alcohol) may have played a role in the accident.
  • Probable-cause: If you suspect a worker may be using drugs, a drug test can be given.
  • Return-to-duty testing: A test can be given to an employee who is returning to work after being absent for a while.
  • Random or periodic: Many employers give random drug tests so the employee does not know when it will happen. This may deter employees from using drugs. Other companies may choose to do periodic, scheduled testing.

Using urine as a sample, the test can be run. The principle of rapid chromatographic immunoassay makes it easy for users to read the results through the color lines that are formed in a short time.

The cut off values that can be read by ACCU-TELL® Multi 7 Drug Panel (Urine) are:

  1. Amfetamin (AMP): 500 ng/ml
  2. Metamfetamin (MET): 500 ng/ml
  3. Benzodiazepin (BZO): 300 ng/ml
  4. Ganja (THC): 50 ng/ml
  5. Morfin (MOR): 300 ng/ml
  6. Kokain (COC): 300 ng/ml
  7. Carisoprodol (CAR): 1000 ng/ml

It only takes 5 minutes to get the test results. This short time will benefit the user in order to determine the next immediate action referring to the results that appear.

Long expiration date: 2 years, giving flexibility to the user if they want to store a certain amount of  ACCU-TELL® Multi 7 Drug Panel (Urine) stock, without worrying that product quality will decrease.

ACCU-TELL® Multi 7 Drug Panel (Urine) has CE certification and has AKL distribution permit from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, so its quality is guaranteed according to domestic and global recommendations.
